The National Assn of Workforce Boards (NAWB) recently launched a national communications campaign designed to collectively build a business case to policy makers and other stakeholders through thousands of workforce success stories from each state and local area. Called Workforce Investment Works, the campaign is a simple storytelling website to help America understand the value propositions of the workforce investment system through success stories submitted by all workforce boards across the country.
These stories speak to the very heart of the workforce system— stories of companies that have been stabilized and expanded, laid off workers who found work and/or a new career, youth who received rewarding work experiences, and job seekers who acquired new skills to be competitive in the new economy. As the repository grows, the site will be searchable by zip codes to allow policy makers and stakeholders to drill down into the site and obtain workforce success stories pertinent to their local areas.
There is a formula in telling a great story. Download our newest storytelling toolkit that helps workforce boards and their staff craft a compelling educational story for outreach.
Learn how to avoid:
- the propensity to talk more about funding streams than actual impacts in the community.
- a tendency to communicate about program guidelines versus value propositions.
- an over-emphasis on organizational structure versus highlighting economic impacts.
